Are Birthday Cards Worth The $$$ Anymore?

If you enjoyed this post,

I just got back from three places trying to find some birthday cards which turned out to be a disappointment. There were a few funny ones but not quite appropriate. There were a few sentimental ones but seemed fake to me. In this day and age where pennies count, it seems to me that it is better to create my own birthday cards with a “custom” message tailored for the birthday person.

As a result, I thought I would create a poll to see what you think of birthday cards.

Are Birthday Cards Worth It Anymore?

  1. They are worth it. Know why? ‘Cause in this day and age of email and cell phones it means something to me that someone would go out, buy a card, then mail it to me.

  2. Hallmark cards are awful. I actually have two kids who are more than gald to craft birthday cards for us to send to everyone. It is a better value for our dollar including postage. Just be sure to get good quality paper and enevlopes.

  3. I agree, my nephews like to do the same thing, so does most of the other kids in mi familia. They actually seem to have a bigger value to me than a store bought card, even if it is mailed halfway across the world. Tough argument here because either way, one would still have to spend money.

  4. I like to make my own. Sure they’re not as flowery, but I feel more excited when I get a homemade one, so I hope that others feel the same.

  5. It’s a hard one this. I like to buy them because it’s a great way to show that you are thinking of someone on their birthday and an e-card always seems so impersonal. However they are not a sustainable purchase and contribute greatly to deforestation and personally i think that they can be very expensive.

  6. Yeah, I am a tree-hugger myself so I always feel a twist of pain when I buy a card (not just in my wallet). I think it is okay to send an e-card for those who are far away because they understand as well that it is the thought that counts.
