Meeting Mary for the First Time
If you enjoyed this post,

Right away, you are listening to someone tell their story to you. Fair warning, it is not pretty, in fact, it is pretty ugly. Nearing the witching hour of midnight, our storyteller is frustrated with of all things, paying bills.
Sounds familiar to you? You know that time of the month when you have to sit down and take a long hard look at what is coming in and what is going out. That is exactly what our mutual friend, Paul is going through.
Our storyteller, Paul is going through the exact same situation only he just got a notice from the IRS that day. Uh-oh, the great mighty powerful IRS of USA.
After rambling through the paperwork and checking the balance of his wife’s checking account, he discovers that they are just fresh out of money to pay any more bills. Upon spying a tiny receipt tucked away in his wife’s checkbook, he discovers his wife split the payment on the brand new artificial tree they got for Christmas.
This tiny piece of discovery was the last straw that broke Paul’s back. Paul decided to take out his frustration by disappearing into the garage and reappearing on the front lawn of his home with an ax in one hand and the artificial tree in other. I won’t spoil this for you.
A little while later after Paul calmed down, he decides to go for a walk down his street. Still drowning the troubles in his mind, Paul begins to search for an answer to all his financial troubles.
A light was on in one of his neighbor’s home and it just happened to catch Paul’s eyes at the time. Left with no other choice but to surrender to his troubles, Paul walks up to the door of his neighbor, knocks and wait.
In the wee dark hours of the night, out comes the homeowner at the door, an elegant, graceful 70 year old lady who recognizes her fellow neighbor. After an initial discussion, Mary the old lady, discovers that Paul is asking for a financial loan to pay the bills with. With relief in her voice at such a strange visit in the night, she invites Paul in for further discussion and a game of chess.
Chess, you ask. Indeed, you read me right, the game, chess. While playing the game, Mary shows Paul a passbook from her bank where she “keep a little bit in a savings account for emergencies.” A tiny glimmer of hope filled Paul’s mind when he sees the balance is exactly $147,952.34. More than sufficient to solve all his financial troubles.
His hopes were immediately dashed when Mary informs Paul diligently that she did not enjoy “throwing good money after bad.” Sensing the change of mood in Paul, she shares with Paul her story and suddenly Paul realizes he is more fortunate than he gave himself credit for. That’s when Mary asks Paul to trust her and perform a few simple tasks for her before she deems the time is right to give Paul a loan.
Paul suddenly gets angry at this request and tells Mary that she is unbelievable. Mary settles Paul down and proceeds to write a note.
To Whom It May Concern:
Being of sound mind, I, Mary Sessions, do hereby agree to loan money to my neighbor, Paul Smith, when he has demonstrated to my satisfaction that he has mastered the four laws of financial success. No collateral will be required for said loan. The interest rate will be 8%; the terms of payback will be negotiated at the time the loan is made, and the amount shall not exceed $2,000,000.
Mary Sessions
I am sure by now you can imagine the shock on Paul’s face when he sees this opportunity. The wind name Mary is about to change Paul’s life forever.
What would you do if someone offers you the same loan?
