Nifty Triple AAA Tool
If you enjoyed this post,
Yesterday, while I was reading some of Bloomberg.com articles, I came across this article talking about how people are changing their travel plans to go to the Jersey Shore because it is close enough for one tank of gas for those living in the greater New York area.
In the article, it pointed to a link to a AAA calculator,
AAA Fuel Cost Calculator
which provides a crude estimate of how much you would be paying for gas. The reason I say crude is because it does not have many cities to choose from.
For example, I am going to York, PA next week so to get an estimate using this calculator, I have to select from the nearest cities. In this case, I would select the starting point which is Boston, MA and the closest destination which would be Baltimore, MD.
Using my new car, a 2008 Honda Civic, the calculator turned up these results.
- Round Trip - 826 miles
- Gallons Used - 28.48
- Fuel Cost - $113.00
I will have to test this out to see whether the calculator is accurate or not.

I wish you were able to choose number of passengers and luggage….It estimated my gas usage would be $204 for my big move. However, I’m planning around $280 because my car will be weighed down with stuff.

Yeah, the tool is not perfect, but it would serve as an idea for some programmer to create a website for additional criteria like you mentioned, weight, passengers, etc…

This is a help in these times of high gas prices, although like Saving Diva I am not so sure about the accuracy since it does not factor in luggage.
