Shopping For Hearing Aid Batteries
If you enjoyed this post,
Even though I am Profoundly Deaf, I wear Senso Vita (SV-38) hearing aids which requires Zinc Air 675 batteries. I marvel at all the technological advancements we have come up with in many areas including hearing aids and yet we still are unable to prolong battery life. The average battery life span for me lasts about 2 weeks, give or take depending on the amount of power my hearing aids requires.
About My Hearing Aids
In the old days, I used to wear analog hearing aids which I loved. I am not too thrilled with the digital ones but unfortunately, analog is becoming a thing of the past. Senso Vita hearing aids are designed in a special way to filter noises digitally.
I am no techno-geek so I can’t tell you much about how these batteries are supposed to work. I can tell you from personal experience that these digital hearing aids do require more power than analog hearing aids. The reason for this is because of the “computer” within the digital hearing aids.
Just like your computer, the more work it has to do, the more power it takes. So if there is more sound surrounding my present environment, the more work my hearing aids have to work to filter out the noises to provide me with the noises that directly affects me like someone talking to me in a rock concert.
The funny thing is at these rock cocnertsI can barely hear them and yet lipread them well enough to understand them and yet they have the damnedest time trying to understand me because the music is just too gosh darn loud.
About My Hearing Aid Batteries
There are so many brands to choose from that I decided to start comparing two brands, Rayovac (a leading brand) and Renata (Swiss manufactured) to see which performs better with my needs.
In the past, I have always just taken the audiologist’s word for it. When I first got these Senso Vita hearing aids, my audiologist and I discovered that not all hearing aid batteries were created equally. There are standard batteries and high powered batteries. Standard batteries simply runs out of power too quickly and often are not enough to support digital hearing aids.
I will be comparing brands for the following criteria,
- Length
- Performance
- Pricing
Be sure to check back in here to find out the results as it will take me a couple months to compare brands including Energizer, Duracell, Rayovac, Renalta, and Toshiba.
