The Banana Roundup : Week 19

If you enjoyed this post,

The Wealth, Money & Life Network

One thing I have to admit I appreciate about having a member of our network who is very thorough on dividend stock investing is the education I am receiving from his blog. D4L talks about his Progress Update - April 2008 with his dividend paying stocks. While I quite don’t understand everything regarding stock investing, slowly I am finding myself learning by reading about his approach. He has an excellent approach that is worthy of checking out.

Ahh, the wonders of college expenses. Dollar Frugal talks about Selling Textbooks. I remember the sticker shock of not buying the textbooks which were $120 dollars a book, but the $35 bucks the bookstore “paid” for my book after 4 months of classes. And the kicker was, the bookstores would turn it around and sell it for $90 bucks. Who says college isn’t a business?

Her Every Cent Counts is also a Prosper lender who is a little more conservative with her investments than I am. However, as she explains in Care to Prosper? P2P Lending Update she does take the same approach as I do, which is to hand-pick the loans.

How I Save Money has been struggling with debt but according to her latest Tracking My Finances in May: Day 10, she managed to save on her utilities budget and is planning to use the difference to pay down her debt. If you are determined to get out of debt, consider having a budget because your budget can help you pinpoint areas where you can trim your expenses which can free up some cash to pay down your debt faster.

Living Off Dividends has been busy while away at the annual Berkshire convention but Reporting From Omaha 2 made me laugh because I have to agree with this point, “most of what you learn in business school is crap”. Really check it out, there are some great pointers.

I have heard of this book before, but Saving For A Home Of My Own did a Book Review : Millionaire by Thirty which surprises me in regards to how this book was written. It doesn’t sound like a sound personal finance book but I would not be surprised if this author made a million writing this book.

Other Personal Finance Bloggers

I am always on the lookout to learn more about real estate tools. Money Ning points out a new Mortgage Loan Calculator which seems to be pretty colorful. I will have to check it out and compare it with Bank Rate’s calculator when I find the time.

I have to admit, seeing some of the news about people cashing out their retirement funds before they retire scares me. Cash Money Life wrote a great post, The Real Cost of Withdrawing Retirement Funds Early highlight some of the points why you should just leave your retirement funds alone. There are other ways to deal with financial issues, even if it means reducing your contribution to the funds but just leave it alone. You will thank yourself years later down the road.

Another dividend blogger I enjoy reading in addition to Dividends4Life is The Dividend Guy. Read his post, Dividend Stock Wednesday: Husky Energy and you can see why I enjoy reading because of the wealth of information you can learn about dividend investing.

  6. Ralph, I am glad to hear you agree. Many people do not realize the long-term impact of cashing out or borrowing from their own retirement funds.

SavingDiva - It is always good to read reviews of PF books from other PF bloggers. Keep it up.
