The Banana Roundup : Week 21
If you enjoyed this post,
Editor’s Note : I will be posting a weekly roundup of postings on personal finance topics I enjoyed reading in the personal finance blogosphere. These bloggers can be found my Blogroll page. Whenever possible, if I come across a new one I like, I will add them to the Blogroll and try to include them in my roundup.
I was away last week in York, PA so I did not get to do my usual roundup however there have been some terrific posts this past week so I am glad to take some time out of this holiday weekend to share with you.
The Wealth, Money & Life Network
The Power of 5/15 in Dividend Investing shows a terrific example of how dividends can double every five years according to a formula Dividends4Life uses to help screen his stock picks.
Dollar Frugal shares five simple points about how Lazy Saturdays at the Library can be good for your finances. While I admit that I don’t go to the library as often as I used to do as a kid, I will be planning on going when I relocate to York because I want to learn more about the area I am planning to invest in.
Her Every Cent Counts has made It’s Official - I’m Moving! It can be difficult to handle rent increases when it is beyond your budget. It will be interesting to see how the latest economy affect the rental costs as it has affected the credit crunch, particularly with the increase in the number of unsold homes.
I always wondered what an Upside Down Car Loan was and How I Save Money explained that. It gives me more reason to look at used cars because the value of used cars have already depreciated in the first three years giving the cars a more reasonable cause for a loan.
Living Off Dividends and Passive Income talked about how Profiting From The Rise In The Price Of Oil to pay off his gas bill for the month. That is certainly one way to come up with extra money to offset the cost of gas, risky but it panned out for this guy.
Saving For A Home shares her June Budget. She mentions she will be paying off her car soon so she will be able to move that payment towards the rest of her budget in the future. It will be interesting to see what her budget is like after she moves, whether the new cost of living increases or decreases.
Other Personal Finance Bloggers…
Free From Broke has an amusing post how American Express Likes Me But Not Enough. It was a fun read to see what American Express had to say to entice him to get a Gold Card. I never understood the hoopla surrounding Silver, Gold, Platinum cards. A line of credit is a line of credit and one should be enough to for you to learn how to manage your personal finances with. If we enacted a law to stop all these junk mails from credit card companies, we might even get a lower interest rate because then the credit card companies would not have to spend millions of dollars every year to mail. A snowball effect right there, less mailing, less oil consumption, more profit, etc….
MoneyNing wrote a terrific post on Find A Target Person To Beat. This is a great motivational post that not only applies to work but to everything else in life. If you want to be a better person, or the best you can be, aim higher than the person you model yourself after. I started doing this a few years ago when I decided I wanted to be debt-free and I am now debt free, my net worth is growing each month. There are still some areas I need to work on such as being as much of a nice guy as I can be, being more respectful of people around me, etc… So there are some people I have seen with the amount of respect they give I want to have and I am now targeting that level so I can become a better person.
Moolanomy reprinted a fun post, Words of the Financially Challenged. I often hear the same comments from others and wonder how people don’t realize if they make the simple effort to change their thinking, they can improve their lifestyle with a simple decision to better their own process.

Thanks for the mention! It’s scary to think how much money credit cards must make in order to justify all of their mailings!!
