The Banana Roundup : Week 22

If you enjoyed this post,

Editor’s Note : I will be posting a weekly roundup of postings on personal finance topics I enjoyed reading in the personal finance blogosphere. These bloggers can be found my Blogroll page. Whenever possible, if I come across a new one I like, I will add them to the Blogroll and try to include them in my roundup.

The Wealth, Money and Life Network

Dividends4Life posted a terrific story at Are Transportation Costs Getting You Down? I have to admit, the optimistic boy digging through all the poop for that pony pretty much narrows the moral of the story. I actually thought of this story when I was driving behind a Waste Management truck the other day and wondered if this company was worth an investment.

I have to admit that Dollar Frugal’s Oil Sticker Shock was certainly humorous when I realized the price of oil was $9.12 a quart.  However sad this may be, it is certainly the truth that many people world wide are now facing, not just with oil but with food and everything else.

How I Save Money is fine-tuning her strategy with her savings and checking account to take advantage of a higher interest rate in Changing How I Save Money in My ING Accounts.  I do something similar except in reverse with direct deposit into my money market and metering out what I need to pay my expenses with every two weeks into my checking account.

I always wondered how I could invest in foreign CDs because I have been noticing a lot of news about different countries and the rates they are cutting or increasing while the Feds have been cutting the rates here.  Now, I know how thanks to Living Off Dividends’ How To Invest In Foreign Currencies.

Saving For A Home Of My Own talks about Going Back to School where she will have to face a decrease in her monthly income.  I am in a similar boat myself with my relocation to York by the end of summer where I will be facing a new set of budget which will include some fixed expenses and undetermined expenses.

Other Personal Finance Bloggers…

A Dollar A Day talks about saving money but busting the budget with grocery shopping. This is is fairly common to see when you go shop for things that are not on your list. Generally, most grocery chains will host these same items on sale every few weeks. There is a certain cycle they have these products on and need to move their inventory before the new shipment comes in. Often when this happens, you will see the ads for these items on sale. It usually happens with certain dry food the most like coffee, pasta, canned items, etc.. July 4th is coming up so plan your budget for sales on the holiday items that you can put away for next month.

Enginero wrote a great post on Decision making, Emergency Fund Style.  It is really a good read if you wanted to think more about your Emergency Fund and what it can do for you.

Free From Broke has a fun post about Five Things Indiana Jones Can Teach Us About Personal Finance.  You can learn a quite a few lessons from some pretty good movies if you pay attention to the details.  Note the comment on his post about Bourne, I thought it was terrific!

I found this post How to Write Your Very Own Investment Policy Statement while reading The Dividend Guy’s weekly update.  It pays to check out other PF bloggers because there is a wealth of information available for your personal finance education.  I do have a crude investment policy in place but I would like to solidify it some more.
